Krugsburg Castle

The castle pitcher Castle , also castle Krußburg called, is an Outbound hilltop castle on 440  m above sea level. NN above the Altmühltalstraße on the north-western steep drop of the Kruspelberg (600 meters north-northwest of the Hammermühle) near Altendorf , a district of the market Mörnsheim in the Eichstätt district in Bavaria .

history

The castle researcher Helmut Rischert sees the hilltop castle of the type of a tower castle as an outpost of the Mörnsheim castle with a visual connection to it and served with a castle man to control the loop of the Altmühltal.

The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1024 as "Crugesburg" , in 1204 a "Reinboto de Crugesburg" appeared as a documentary witness and until 1294 Eichstätter Ministeriale , who were related to the also Eichstätt Ministeriale von Mörnsheim, named themselves after the castle. Presumably the castle had already gone in the 13th century.

Origin of name

The name is derived either from the ridge of the hill, which has the shape of a jug, or from the curvature ("claw") of the Altmühlschleife. The name "Kruspelberg" comes from the vernacular , as the ridge extends into the Altmühltal like a "Kruspel" (cartilage).

description

The castle hill, which ends in an accessible rock nose, is about five by four meters. The Burgplatz is 19 meters long and 12 meters wide, which suggests a residential tower with a few outbuildings. The four to five meter wide neck ditch that separates the upper castle hill from the rock ridge that runs along the steep slope is still preserved from the former castle complex . The Burgstall is now a ground monument .
