Button Island is an island in Hingham Bay in Boston Harbor . It is located 12.5 mi (20.1 km ) from downtown Boston in the state of Massachusetts in the United States . Button Iceland has a permanent area of approximately 0.61 acres (about 2,470 meters), which through a watt , depending on the tidal range is temporarily increased by a further 115 acres (0.46 square kilometers). It is administered by the City of Hingham and is part of the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area .

The island protrudes about 10 ft (3 m ) out of the water and consists mainly of till marl .
Flora and fauna
A very large oak grows on Button Island and was planted there in the late 19th century. In addition, other smaller, but fully grown oaks as well as linden , cedar and rhus thrive . Shrubs found on the island include Myrica and Dewberry . Various grasses and sea lavender grow in the intertidal zone .
history
It is very likely that the island was already used seasonally by the Indians . The original trees were probably removed by the colonists for use as firewood. Today there are around 20 trees and dense blackberry bushes in the undergrowth on the island .
