from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 2013 CIMB KL Open Squash Championships took place from March 26th to 31st, 2013 in Kuala Lumpur , Malaysia . The men's squash tournament was part of the PSA World Tour 2012/13 and belonged to the International 50 category . The women's squash tournament was part of the WSA World Tour 2012/13 and belonged to the World Series Gold category .

The defending champions were Omar Mosaad for men, who defeated Adrian Grant 3-2 last year , and Nicol David for women, who beat Annie Au 3-0. Both went to defend their titles. While Nicol David started the tournament in top position, the men's field was led by Karim Darwish . In this year's edition, Omar Mosaad had to retire due to injury in the opening round against Ong Beng Hee . The two top seeded Egyptians Karim Darwish and Mohamed Elshorbagy met in the finalon each other. Darwish clearly won the match with 11: 9, 12:10 and 11: 7. This made Darwish the first player to win the tournament for the second time, after winning the title in 2011. Even then he defeated Elshorbagy in the final. In the women's tournament, Nicol David was not in the final for the first time in tournament history: She lost 3-1 in the semi-finals to the later winner Laura Massaro from England. In the final she defeated her compatriot Alison Waters 11: 9, 11: 7 and 11: 6.

The field of participants in the men's competition consisted of 16 players, four of which were reserved for qualifiers. In the women's competition there were 32 players, 16 of whom were seeded. Of the other 16 places, eight were reserved for qualifiers. Per Wildcard received Muhd Asyraf Azan and Delia Arnold a starting place in the respective main field.
