history

The municipality of Veyrier-du-Lac was already settled in the Neolithic and Roman times.

The place name goes back to the Gallo-Roman personal name Verius or Virius and means something like Verius / Virius estate . Until 1901 the municipality was called Vairier-d'Annecy , after which the current name was introduced. Since the second half of the 19th century, Veyrier-du-Lac has been a popular place to stay for painters and writers thanks to its beautiful location and mild climate.

Attractions

The parish church was built in the neo-Gothic style. Of the secular buildings, the Château de la Ruaz from the 16th century and the Château de Fésigny should be mentioned.

Economy and Infrastructure

Veyrier-du-Lac was a predominantly agricultural village until the 20th century . Today there are some small and medium-sized businesses. Many workers are commuters who work in the larger towns in the area, especially in Annecy. Thanks to its beautiful location by the lake and the mild climate, Veyrier-du-Lac has developed into a holiday resort in recent decades. Day tourism also plays an important role. The operation of the cable car from Veyrier-du-Lac to Mont Veyrier was stopped in 2001.

The place is well developed in terms of traffic. It is on the main D909 road from Annecy to Thônes . Another regionally important road connection is along the eastern bank of Lac d'Annecy with Doussard . The closest connection to the  A41 motorway is around ten kilometers away.
