Christian Jürgens (cook)

Christian Juergens (born November 6, 1968 in Unna ) is a German chef . He also publishes cookbooks and appears on cooking programs .

biography

Jürgens, the son of a butcher, began an apprenticeship as a cook in Bad Homburg vor der Höhe when he was 16 . His path led via Feinkost Käfer to the Tantris restaurant , the Heinz Winkler residence in Aschau and to Jörg Müller and Eckart Witzigmann .

In 1997 he became head chef at the Am Marstall restaurant on Maximilianstrasse in Munich . It was awarded a Michelin star in its first year as a chef there . In 2001, Jürgens moved to the "Kastell" restaurant at Wernberg Castle in Wernberg-Köblitz , in the position of head chef . The "Kastell" was awarded two Michelin stars by the Michelin Guide 2002.

In July 2008, Jürgens started as head chef at the Althoff-Hotel Seehotel Überfahrt in Rottach-Egern am Tegernsee . The restaurant Überfahrt, run by Jürgens, has been rated with three stars in the Michelin Guide since November 2013, and in the 2016 edition of the Gault Millau restaurant guide, it was rated as one of five restaurants in Germany with the top score of 19.5 points.

His restaurant is one of the ten three-star restaurants in Germany (as of November 2015). Alongside Jan Hartwig, Jürgens is one of two and, after Eckart Witzigmann and Heinz Winkler, the third chef in Bavaria whose kitchen has been awarded three Michelin stars.
