The Cloer is a small river in the urban area of Willich in the North Rhine-Westphalian district of Viersen . The Cloer flows into the Niers , a tributary of the Meuse . The name Klörgraben has also been handed down from the 19th century . Occasionally, the actually incorrect spelling Chloer is found .
Official characterization
The Cloer is 6.6 kilometers long and its catchment area is around 10.22 square kilometers.
The entire course of the Cloer is classified by the North Rhine-Westphalian Ministry for Climate Protection, Environment, Agriculture, Nature and Consumer Protection as type 19 ( small low-lying watercourse in river and river valleys ).
The water quality of the Cloer is in quality class II-III and is therefore considered to be critically polluted .
course
The Cloer has two source tributaries, both of which are located southeast of the center of Schiefbahn . The northern of the two source tributaries begins at the L 382 , this is Korschenbroicher Straße , and is fed from the Sürderspick rainwater retention basin . The southern source tributary begins on the L 390 , which is the former federal road 7 , directly on the city and district boundary between Willich and Korschenbroich or between the Viersen district and the Rhine district of Neuss . From there, the southern tributary flows past a pond to the north , turns west behind the pond , runs along the southern edge of the Willich-Schiefbahn motorway junction , bends back to the north behind it and then crosses under the A 52 federal motorway .
To the north of the motorway, the southern source tributary flows together with the northern one. In the further course the Cloer flows in the area of Schiefbahn essentially in a westward direction, whereby it runs roughly between the southern edge of the Schiefbahner development and the A 52. After crossing under the street Hessenbende , the Cloer has an inflow from the north from a sewage treatment plant. A little to the west of it, the Cloer finally flows on the northern edge of the Cloerbruch motorway service station, past the A 52 and then along the southern edge of the Knickelsdorf location .
From Knickelsdorf the creek bed of the Cloer then runs relatively straight for a 1.5 km section in a west-north- westerly direction, whereby it crosses under the A 44 a little north of the Neersen motorway junction . On the edge of Neersen the Cloer then flows on the northern edge of the local sports grounds along until they near the local nursery and the primary school direction southwest bends and then at the edge of poplars runs. A little to the southwest of the poplar avenue, the Cloer flows through a so-called regeneration pond , which serves to improve the water quality.
Following the regeneration pond, the Cloer initially continues to flow in a westerly direction. After crossing under Neersener Hauptstrasse , it turns again in a west-north-westerly direction, runs past an allotment garden and finally at a distance of approx. 70 m parallel to the Niersweg road to the Bettrather Dyk . Here the Cloer bends again towards the southwest and flows about 400 m directly next to the Bettrather Dyk . Then it turns to the northwest and moves away from the street Bettrather Dyk , after about 250 m there is another turn to the southwest, after another 250 m the Cloer finally flows into the Niers , about 300 m northwest of the Mönchengladbach-Neuwerk or . About 600 m northeast of the Viersener monument Haus Donkholt .
The Cloer as a research object
For their research on the chemistry and ecology of the Cloer and its surroundings, the 13 to 15-year-old students Niklas Leven and Christoph Scheinert from Willich-Anrath from the Lise-Meitner-Gymnasium there were three times in a row from 2006 to 2008 in North Rhine-Westphalia State winners of the competition “ Jugend forscht ” in the subject “ Geo- and spatial sciences ”.
In 2008 and 2009, Niklas Leven and Christoph Scheinert also received one of the main prizes in the federal environmental competition twice in a row for their research work on environmental measures and water studies along the Cloer and model tests to improve water quality through effective microorganisms and the implementation of environmental measures .
