Cypress Semiconductor Corporation was a US semiconductor manufacturer headquartered in San Jose , California until it was acquired by the German Infineon Technologies AG in 2020 .

history

Cypress Semiconductor was founded in 1982 by TJ Rodgers with Fritz Beyerlein, Fred Jenne, Steven H. Kaplan, R. Michael Starnes, and Lowell Turriff. TJ Rodgers is the founder and was General Manager of the company until April 28, 2016. He was followed by the current General Director Hassane El-Khoury. The company had around 7,000 employees in 2016. Her income in 2016 was $ 2 billion. Over the years Cypress Semiconductor has regularly acquired or merged with other companies. These include Ramtron , the wireless IoT division of Broadcom (2016) and the merger with Spansion (2015). In June 2019 it was announced that the German Infineon is aiming to take over Cypress Semiconductor for around 9 billion euros. Infineon completed the acquisition in April 2020, making it one of the ten largest semiconductor manufacturers worldwide.

Products

Cypress Semiconductor is best known as a manufacturer of static RAMs . Through the SPANSION merger, Cypress is also an important supplier for FLASH products. Other product lines include 8-bit / 16-bit and 32-bit microcontrollers as well as PSoC (Programmable System on Chip), touch controllers, clock buffers, PMIC (Power Management IC), wireless and USB chips and various modules.
