Dariusz Jabłoński (born April 28, 1973 in Chełm ) is a former Polish wrestler . He became world champion in the Greco-Roman style bantamweight in 2003.

Career

Dariusz Jabłoński began wrestling as a teenager in his hometown of Chełm . He joined the sports club Cement Gryf Chełm . He focused on the Greco-Roman style and was coached by Krzysztof Grabczuk , Andrzej Głąb , Jan Potocki and on the national team by Stanisław Krzesiński throughout his long career . With him, his younger brother Piotr also began wrestling, although he was not quite as successful as he was. Dariusz Jabłoński is also very well known in German wrestling circles because he wrestled for KSV Ketsch and 1. Luckenwalder SC in the German Bundesliga for many years . While still active, he completed his training as a sports teacher and specifically as a wrestling trainer.

Dariusz Jabłoński was already very successful as a junior wrestler. At the European Junior Championships in 1989 (age group Cadets = up to the age of 16) in Witten , he just missed the medal ranks in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight with a 4th place. In 1990 he was in Tel Aviv in the juniors age group (up to the age of 18) in the weight class up to 50 kg, behind Mchitar Manukjan from the Soviet Union, vice world champion. He achieved the same success at the Junior World Championships in Prievidza in 1991 , but in the Espors age group (up to 20 years of age) in the weight class up to 54 kg. Only Samuel Danieljan from the Soviet Union placed before him there. At the Junior World Championships in 1991 for Juniors (age group up to 18 years of age) in Barcelona , he had to be content with 7th place in the weight class up to 52 kg.

In the senior class, Dariusz Jabłoński made his first start in an international championship in 1994. He had to be content with 18th place at the European Flyweight Championships in Athens . In 1994 and 1995 he was not able to place in the front field at the international championships. In 1996 he came at the European Flyweight Championships in Budapest but on the 5th place and reached with this place the start authorization at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta . In Atlanta he won over Valentin Rebega, Romania , then lost to Samuel Danieljan , won over Ulises Valentin from the Dominican Republic, Ha Tae-yeon from South Korea and Andrij Kalaschnykow from Ukraine . In a final placement fight he had to play again against Ha Tae-yeon and lost this fight, which he finished in 8th place.

Dariusz Jabłoński then made his final breakthrough among seniors at the 1997 European Championships in Kouvola / Finland . In flyweight he succeeded there with victories over Zigmunds Jansons, Latvia , Ercan Yıldız , Turkey , Oleg Nemtschenko , Russia and Farhat Mageramow from Belarus the title win. In 1998 he reached the 5th place in the flyweight world championship in Gaevle / Sweden . A surprising defeat threw him back in his first fight against Khaled Al-Faraj from Syria . Although he then won five fights in a row, he could only fight for a bronze medal against Boris Ambarzumow from Russia and lost this fight on points.

In 1999 he won a silver medal at the European Flyweight Championships in Sofia . In the fight for the European title he had to admit defeat to his old rival Samuel Danieljan from Russia. At the 1999 World Cup in Athens he retired after defeating Zigmunds Jansons because of a defeat in his second fight against Boris Ambarzumow and only came in 25th place.

In the 2000 Olympic year, Dariusz Jabłoński had to compete in three qualifying tournaments according to the regulations at the time, until he had finally achieved the number of points required to participate in the Olympic Games in Sydney . At the Olympic Games itself, he then lost against Sim Gwon-ho from South Korea and against Rachimdschan Assembekow from Kazakhstan and only came in 19th place.

In 2001 and 2002 Dariusz Jabłoński won a bronze medal at the European Championships in Istanbul and Seinäjoki / Finland , while he came out empty with a 13th place and a 16th place at the World Championships in Patras (2001) and Moscow (2002).

He achieved the greatest success of his career in 2003, when he won the bantamweight championship in Créteil at the age of 30 with victories over Assot Imanbajew, Kazakhstan , Roman Amojan , Armenia , Håkan Nyblom , Denmark , Petr Svehla , Czech Republic and Im Dae-won , South Korea , to become world champions .

With this success he was of course also eligible to compete in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens . It was already his third Olympic Games. However, he did not succeed in fighting his way into the medal ranks in Athens, as he did in Atlanta and Sydney, because there he lost his first fight against Gaidar Mamedaliejew from Russia. With a subsequent victory over Mukesh Khatri from India , he only reached 15th place.

At the end of his international wrestling career, Dariusz Jabłoński started in 2005 at the World Championships in Budapest . He came there in the bantamweight to a victory over Jan Hocko, Czech Republic, but lost his second fight against Kwang Su-Cha from North Korea and finished in 12th place.
