Dejan Ljubicic (born October 8, 1997 in Vienna ) is an Austrian football player .

Career

society

Born in Vienna, Dejan Ljubicic first played for the Favoritner AC as a child . In 2006 he joined the youth team at SK Rapid Vienna . After going through various youth teams, he moved up to the amateur team in the summer of 2015.

He made his debut for Rapid's second team in July 2015, when he was in the starting line-up against FK Austria Wien II on matchday one of the 2015/16 season until he was replaced in the 81st minute. At the end of the season he had 20 goalless games to book. In the following season he played 25 games in which he scored three goals.

In July 2017, Ljubicic received a professional contract with Rapid, but was immediately awarded as a cooperation player to the second division club SC Wiener Neustadt . In the same month he made his debut in the second division when he was in the starting line-up against SV Ried on the first day of the 2017/18 season.

In August 2017, due to the absence of Maximilian Wöber, he was ordered back into training with the Viennese, but could have played again as a cooperation player for Wiener Neustadt. In the same month he made his debut for Rapid in the Bundesliga , when he was in the starting line-up against LASK on matchday six , until he was replaced by Stephan Auer in the 78th minute . In the winter transfer window of season 2019/20, a change to the failed MLS - Franchise Chicago Fire due to a diagnosed by the doctors of Chicago Fire cruciate ligament injury. At SK Rapid Wien, this assessment was not shared after an accompanying investigation.

National team

Ljubicic played his only game for the Austrian U-17 team against Serbia in June 2014 . Between April and May 2015 he came to three missions for the U-18 team .

In October 2015, he played his first of two games for the U-19 team against Switzerland . In October 2017 he made his debut against Armenia for the U-21 selection .

Personal

Ljubicic's parents are Bosnian Croats who fled to Austria before the war . His father Zoran played as a striker for SKN St. Pölten, among others . His brother Robert (* 1999) is also a soccer player. Dejan Ljubicic grew up in Pressbaum and in Vienna .

At the end of December 2017, Ljubicic was temporarily arrested in the Bosnian city ​​of Kiseljak for vandalism because he and one other person had thrown glass bottles at a mosque. This incident was strongly condemned by the Rapid management team; Ljubicic apologized and agreed to repair the damage and make a donation to the affected religious community.
