Eisbach is a cadastral municipality, place and former municipality with 2991 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2016) north of Graz .

As part of the municipal structural reform in Styria , it was merged with the municipalities of Judendorf-Straßengel , Gratwein and Gschnaidt from 2015 , the new municipality is called Marktgemeinde Gratwein-Straßengel . The basis for this is the Styrian Municipal Structural Reform Act - StGsrG. A complaint from the mayor of Eisbach to the Constitutional Court against the merger was unsuccessful.

The town of Rein with its famous monastery is the center of the former community and the seat of a federal high school .

geology

Rein lies to the west of the Gratkorner Basin , which opens to the West Styrian Riedland and forms a widening of the Murtal . The area is part of the Styrian Neogen Basin ( Grazer Bucht ), its rock strata are known as "Strata of Rein". Below are limestone , dolomite , sandstone and slate from the “ Graz Paleozoic ”. Above that, the Reiner layers with river deposits from bathing with breccias , freshwater marl , partly with low-thickness coal seams. The occurrence of " chert " was described in these layers as early as 1846 . Over these layers lie further river deposits (Eckwirt gravel) and loamy layers from the Pleistocene .

A number of mining operations were located near Eisbach and in its vicinity, for example on mercury and lignite.
