Eltac Səfərli (at the World Chess Federation FIDE Eltaj Safarli ; born May 18, 1992 in Baku ) is an Azerbaijani chess player .

Life

In 2002 he won in Peñíscola the U10 European Championship and in Heraklion , the U10 World Cup . He won the U12 European Championship in Budva in 2003. In 2007 he won the Essent Open in Hoogeveen . At the U16 Chess Olympiad 2008 in Mersin , he received an individual silver medal for his result of 7 points from 9 games on the first board. He finished third at the U20 World Cup in Gaziantep in 2008 . In 2010 he won the Azerbaijani individual championship for the first time in Baku ahead of Nicat Məmmədov . In November 2010 he won the Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg with a half point lead over Ivan Sokolov . He won the Azerbaijani individual championship for the second time in 2016.

In April 2006 he received the title of International Master . He achieved the standards for this at the 15th International Festival in Abu Dhabi in August 2005, at the Zayed Open in Dubai in October 2005 and at the International Festival at the end of October 2005 in Baku. He has been a grandmaster since April 2008 . He achieved the grandmaster standards in the A2 group of the Aeroflot Open in February 2006 in Moscow , at the 17th International Festival in Abu Dhabi in July 2007 and at the Michail Chigorin Memorial in Saint Petersburg in December 2007. It is in February 2015 behind Şəhriyar Məmmədyarov , Teymur Rəcəbov and Rauf Məmmədov in fourth place in the Azerbaijani Elo ranking.

National team

For the Azerbaijani national team he played at the 2010 Chess Olympiads in Khanty-Mansiysk on the first reserve board, in 2012 in Istanbul on the second board and in 2014 in Tromsø on the fourth board. He also took part in the 2013 World Team Championship and the 2011 , 2013 and 2015 European Team Championship . Azerbaijan finished second with him at the European Team Championships 2011 in Porto Carras , and Azerbaijan won the 2013 European Team Championships in Warsaw with Səfərli on the third board.

He played club chess for the first time in 2007 in the Turkish, 2009 for the first time in the Spanish (for Mérida Patrimonio - Ajoblanco ) 1st division. With SOCAR Azerbaijan he took part in the European Club Cup from 2010 to 2015. In 2012 and 2014 he won the competition with the team, in 2011 in Rogaška Slatina and in 2015 SOCAR took second place with him, Səfərli also received a bronze medal in 2011 for his score of 4.5 out of 5 on the second reserve board. With Odlar Yurdu he took part in the European Club Cup in 2016 and 2017. In the Russian team championship in 2013 he played for Navigator Moscow , in the Spanish team championship in 2009 for CA Mérida Patrimonio-Ajoblanco and in 2017 for Escola d'Escacs de Barcelona and in the French Top 12 2018 for Metz Fischer .
