Aeschi is a political municipality in the Frutigen-Niedersimmental administrative district of the canton of Bern in Switzerland , not to be confused with Aeschi (SO) , another political municipality, but located in the canton of Solothurn .
geography
Aeschi is located south of Spiez on the right side of the Kander opposite the Niesen on a ridge that initially climbs gently towards the Morgenberghorn at a height of around 850 m (in the town center). The Lake Thun is less than 2 km northeast of Aeschi. The district of Aeschiried lies a little above the village .
Of the almost 31 km² large municipal area, 645 hectares are forest.
Name and story
The name Aeschi is based on an Old High German basic form «ascahi» ( ash tree ) and describes a place where ash trees are found in large numbers. «In 1228 it was written as 'Assches' or 'Ashes', in 1361 as 'Esse', in 1453 as 'Eschy'. From this the name ‹Aeschi› developed over time and has been used since the 16th century. "

population
Aeschi has around 640 households. At the 2000 census, the community had 2025 inhabitants, of which “approx. 30% under 20, 26% between 20 and 39, 28% between 40 and 64 and 16% over 65 years of age. Around 37% of the population were fully employed and around 10% were partly employed. Approx. 6% of the total population worked in agriculture, ..., in industry and handicrafts, 9% and in trade, hospitality and transport approx. 28%. Of the 867 employed people, 191 were self-employed (22%) ».
The trade association founded in 1945 has 75 members (accessed April 2010).

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the 2015 National Council election were: SVP 48.4%, BDP 11.4%, SP 8.2%, EPP 8.1%, FDP 6.8%, GPS 6.4%, glp 3.9 %, EDU 3.6%, CVP 0.9%.
traffic
There are bus connections to Spiez via Hondrich and Krattigen as well as towards the Suldtal .
tourism
There is an indoor swimming pool with a sauna in the community .
Several well-marked, mostly easy-to-walk, but also in sections, very steep hiking trails pass the community or sometimes begin there.
A half-terraced campsite between Aeschi town center and the Wachthubel at approx. 900 m altitude offers around 50 permanently rented and 45 tourist parking spaces on an area of approx. Numerous other accommodations, such as hotels, guest houses, boarding houses, holiday flats and guest rooms, as well as around a dozen restaurants are available especially for tourism.
Winter: Especially in Aeschiried there are several ski lifts and cross-country trails, one of which is illuminated.
