Europe ( Albanian  Evropa , Serbian Европа Evropa ) is the national anthem of the Republic of Kosovo . For the declaration of independence on February 17, 2008, the flag and coat of arms were already in place. The European anthem was the provisional national anthem .

history

On March 12, 2008, a competition was announced in which composers could apply with their suggestions for the new hymn. The government formed a commission with all party leaders to select the anthem. On June 5, 2008, the chairman of the constitutional commission of the Kosovar parliament, Hajredin Kuçi, announced that the anthem with the title Evropa ("Europe") by Kosovar composer Mendi Mengjiqi received the most votes. The hymn was approved by the Kosovar parliament on June 11, 2008 with 72 votes in favor, 14 against and 5 abstentions as the future national anthem. The new national anthem came into force with the adoption of the Kosovo Constitution on June 15, 2008.

The Ahtisaari plan intended to deliberately dispense with a text in order to avoid possible conflicts with ethnic minorities . This is why the Kosovar national anthem has no text in the official version, even if the composer Mengjiqi drafted a text in Gian Albanian for the anthem.
