The Fachhochschule Bielefeld (short FH Bielefeld , English Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences ), with 10,552 students, 272 professors and teachers for special assignments and approximately 537 other employees the largest public college in East Westphalia-Lippe . The FH Bielefeld has its seat in Bielefeld . Other locations are in Minden and Gütersloh . history

The Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences was founded on August 1st, 1971 and is one of the first wave of universities of applied sciences in Germany. Walter Wolff was initially appointed acting rector by the Ministry of Science and Research. Germanus Wegmann was then appointed the first rector of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. When the company was founded, the Minden location was also created. As was customary at the time, the existing training institutions merged to form a technical college. In the case of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences, these were:

Locations

Bielefeld

The largest place of study and headquarters of the FH Bielefeld is the city of Bielefeld. The University of Applied Sciences has a total of three locations in Bielefeld.

Interaction 1

The central main building of the FH Bielefeld was completed in summer 2015. It has a main usable area of ​​31,500 square meters, 2,000 rooms, including 15 central lecture halls and more than 220 seminar rooms. There are 1,040 parking spaces available in the underground car park. The building can be easily reached by public transport using tram line 4, Wellensiek stop. The departments of economics and health, engineering and mathematics, and social affairs are housed in the new central main building on the Bielefeld campus. In addition to the classic full-time courses, the departments of business and health as well as engineering and mathematics offer extra-occupational combined courses with courses on the weekend. In the field of economics, there has been a practice-integrated course in business administration since the 2015/2016 winter semester, and the practice-integrated bachelor's degree in business informatics from winter semester 2018/19, in which learning phases at the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and practical phases in companies alternate over 13 weeks. In the field of health, the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences offers the dual bachelor's degree in health and nursing, in which both the qualification as health and nurse and the bachelor's degree can be obtained in eight semesters.

In addition to the three departments, the main building on the Bielefeld campus also houses the executive committee, the university administration with student services and the general student committee (AStA). There is also the university library with a modern learning center and around 115,000 volumes as well as the zdi student laboratory experiMINT of the engineering and mathematics department. The central canteen for the technical college and university was opened in building X on the Bielefeld campus in 2014. The cafeteria can be reached by foot in a few minutes and offers 1,900 seats on 8,500 square meters and a capacity of up to 7,500 meals per day.

Lampingstrasse 3

The design department is right next to the Rudolf-Oetker-Halle . Originally emerged from the Bielefeld School of Crafts and Applied Arts , the department has been at its current location since 1979. The department offers a bachelor's degree and a master's degree in design with three or four semesters. The course has four fields of study: "Photography and Visual Media", "Communication Design", "Fashion" and "Digital Media and Experiment". A specialist library and the Finance and Research Department are also located at the Lampingstrasse location.

Universitätsstrasse 27

This is where you will find the Apparative Biotechnology course in the Engineering and Mathematics department. The modern building houses offices, seminar rooms and laboratories.

Minden

At the Minden campus are over 1,600 students enrolled (as of winter semester 2014/15). It offers 13 courses with a focus on architecture and civil engineering, technology, and nursing and health. The apprenticeship takes place in different buildings at Artilleriestraße 9. The former artillery barracks, in which there are seminar rooms, lecture halls, laboratories, offices and a cafeteria, was completely refurbished and renovated from 1996 to 2002 under the aspects of monument protection. In July 2015, a new building was put into operation on campus, in which the campus library, the cafeteria, as well as seminar rooms, laboratories and offices are housed.

Gutersloh

In September 2010, the Gütersloh study location was opened at Schulstrasse 10, which is assigned to the engineering and mathematics department. The following practice-integrated bachelor's degree programs are offered: industrial engineering, mechatronics / automation, digital logistics, digital technologies and product service engineering (as of 2019).

Further offers are the part-time master’s courses in Applied Automation, Industrial Engineering and Digital Technologies. Since the summer semester of 2018, the Business and Health Department in Gütersloh has been offering the part-time bachelor's degree in business administration. In addition, there is the full-time data science course as a research master.

The place of study receives significant support from two endowed professorships. One of the professorships is financed by Hans Beckhoff ( Beckhoff Automation , Verl), the second is made possible jointly by the foundation of the Kreissparkasse Wiedenbrück and the city and district of Gütersloh .

In October 2018, teaching began at the second location on Langen Weg 9a, "Gleis 13". In the building at the former freight yard there are seminar rooms, offices for the professors and employees as well as common rooms and group work rooms for the students.

Institutes

Institute for education and health services research

At the Institute for Education and Services Research in the Health Sector (InBVG), researchers from the Nursing and Health teaching unit work together with different focus areas in the areas of nursing science, therapeutic sciences, health sciences and vocational education. In research and development projects, questions and challenges in the health sector are researched and action plans are developed.

Bielefeld Institute for Applied Materials Research

The Bielefeld Institute for Applied Materials Science (BIfAM) was founded on May 1, 2013 as a research institute of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. The research activities of the BIfAM deal on the one hand with basic investigations into the physical properties of novel materials, on the other hand with the linking, further development and industrialization of fundamentally known methods and materials. The research activities are structured by the three competence areas "Application and testing of new materials in electrical engineering and electronics", "Characterization, application and testing of new construction materials" and "Modeling and simulation".

Institute for System Dynamics and Mechatronics

The Institute for System Dynamics and Mechatronics (ISyM) strives for a synergetic collaboration between engineers in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and information technology in the areas of model-based system development, system dynamics and control engineering as well as mechatronics. On the one hand, the aim of joint projects is to further develop methods and processes and transfer them directly to industry. The offer ranges from the simple utilization and application of the methods of model-based system development to overarching process design in companies in the sense of a continuous cross-domain development process. On the other hand, the research strategy of the institute includes the goal of developing entirely new fields of application and technology such as medical technology or biomechatronics in the long term .

Institute for Intelligent Buildings

The Institute for Intelligent Buildings (InfinteG) deals with current and future research questions on the subject of living and working in intelligent buildings. The focus is on the aspects of wellbeing, sensors, energy efficiency, data security and fire protection.

Institute for Technical Energy Systems

The Institute for Technical Energy Systems (ITES) deals with the investigation and solution of interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary questions of system-technical integration as well as the economic, ecological optimization and social integration of decentralized energy systems.

Affiliated institute

The Competence Center Technology-Diversity-Equal Opportunities eV is an affiliated institute of the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences. It organizes the Girl'sDay and Boys'Day nationwide. The primary goal of the non-profit association Competence Center Technology-Diversity-Equal Opportunities is to achieve equal opportunities in all social and professional areas.

Applied Mathematical Modeling and Optimization

The research focus Applied Mathematical Modeling and Optimization (AMMO) comprises linear, nonlinear and discrete optimization, theoretical and experimental modeling, financial optimization and risk management, process simulation and optimization, tool development for special areas of application, problem solving / optimization based on mathematical models, modeling and optimization and the introduction of new software in the factories.

The research focus on forms of cognition in photography includes images of living, the architecture in the image and moving images.

Research Training Groups

Model-based implementation of intelligent systems in nano and bio technology (MoRitS)

The Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences and Bielefeld University were funded by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia as part of the "NRW.Forschungskooperationen U&FH" funding program with the research association "Model-based Realization of Intelligent Systems in Nano- and Bio-Technology - MoRitS". Research laboratory

Mieletec FH Bielefeld

The Mieletec FH Bielefeld is a long-term cooperation with the household appliance manufacturer Miele from Gütersloh in the field of research into methods, processes and concepts for future household appliances. In these areas, the scientific basis should be worked out together.

Equality work

Equality means (according to the company's own statement) that the different life situations and interests of women and men are taken into account from the outset and naturally in all developments and measures. The aim is to improve opportunities for women in all areas of the university, i. H. Subjects as well as status and hierarchy groups. The equal opportunities work is carried out by a central equal opportunities officer who is supported by decentralized equal opportunities officers and their deputies. The duties of the equal opportunities officer are broad: it ranges from participation in personnel decisions to the creation of equality guidelines and project management of equality concepts.

The gender equality work can be described as very successful. According to the current university ranking for gender equality aspects for 2015 by the Leibniz Institute (gender report 2015 for short), the Bielefeld University of Applied Sciences ranks in the top group of all universities nationwide; this was already the case in the 2013 and 2011 gender reports. The success - which was awarded the Gender Prize of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia in 2009 - is due to the fact that equality is lived as a holistic concept including the equality concept, framework plan for the advancement of women and the women's advancement plans in the various organizational units. Results are u. a. Family-friendly study and professional conditions, a transparent appointment procedure and active women and gender research.
