François Simon (born October 28, 1968 in Troyes ) is a former French cyclist . He is the younger brother of Régis , Pascal and Jérôme Simon , all three also former professional cyclists .
François Simon took part in the Tour de France ten times in a row between 1993 and 2002 . There he achieved his best placement in 2001 when he was sixth overall. At that time, on the eighth stage, a group of 13 drivers - Simon among them - managed to get out onto the main field for over 30 minutes. After the tenth stage he received in destination L'Alpe d'Huez , the yellow jersey of the leader and had at this time more than 20 minutes ahead of the later Tour winner Lance Armstrong . Simon was fierce and defended the yellow jersey after an individual time trial and the first stage in the Pyrenees, but was overtaken by the favorites on stage 13.
