History and economy

The story Frieswils - 1249 for the first time as Frieswile mentioned - is exit of the High Middle Ages with the rule and Castle Oltigen closely linked. Since Frieswil part of the manorial system was Oltigen, this was mainly in Frieswil during the 13th and 14th century by the Counts of Kyburg exercised. The Frienisberg monastery and the Tedlingen (Detligen) or Bernburger monastery owned goods in Frieswil during this period and also in the late medieval period. Finally, Frieswil was bought by Bern in 1412.

From this date Frieswil belonged to a Bernese bailiff - from 1483 to that of Laupen - until the end of the Bern city republic in 1798. Since 1832 Frieswil has been part of the community of Seedorf and connected to Aarberg and Bern by the newly built state road from 1851-1852 . It can be assumed that this modern state road was served by stagecoaches and has been proven to have been with Postbuses from 1906 - the first Postbus course in Switzerland.

Due to the documented changes in hand of Schupposen in the Middle Ages, it can be concluded that the Frieswil farms and cattle ranched. Otherwise nothing specific is known about the history of Frieswil or its inhabitants from the Middle Ages to modern times . At the beginning of the 20th century, Frieswil had 26 houses and 165 residents, a post office with a telegraph and telephone.

Today the Frieswil economy consists of agriculture and trade .
