(red = season 1, blue = season 2, green = season 3)

The Thuringia regional football class in 1948/49 was the first time the Thuringia regional football class was held . In contrast to the state classes in Brandenburg and Mecklenburg , for example, a top state class was only introduced in Thuringia this season. Until 1948, only football championships were held at district level in Thuringia. These only determined the two Thuringian representatives for the soccer east zone championship in 1948 in the cup mode .

The 24 strongest clubs from the previous season qualified for the newly created national class. This was played in three seasons in a round-robin tournament, the three season winners qualified for the final round, in which the Thuringian soccer champions were determined. The SG Fortuna Erfurt was able to prevail in the end and qualified with this victory for the soccer east zone championship in 1949 , in which the Erfurt only lost in the final of the ZSG Union Halle . The runner-up SG Altenburg-Nord also qualified for the eastern zone championship, but lost to Eintracht Stendal 3: 4 in the qualifying round .

Due to the introduction of the GDR Oberliga , the national class was only second class from the coming season. Erfurt and Altenburg qualified for this league. Since a reduction of the national class to two relays was planned for the season 1949/50, those three teams had to relegate, which scored the fewest points across relay teams.
