Venues for the Saxony-Anhalt regional soccer class 1948/49
(red = season 1, blue = season 2)

The Saxony-Anhalt regional soccer class in 1948/49 was the first to host the Saxony-Anhalt regional soccer class . In contrast to the state classes of Brandenburg and Mecklenburg , for example, a top class was not introduced in Saxony-Anhalt until this season. Until 1948, only football championships were held at district level in Saxony-Anhalt. These only determined the two representatives for the soccer east zone championship in 1948 in the cup mode .

The 20 strongest clubs from the previous season qualified for the newly created national class. This was held in two seasons in a round-robin tournament, both season winners qualified for the final, in which the Saxony-Anhalt soccer champions were determined. The ZSG Union Halle was able to prevail in the end and qualified with this victory for the soccer east zone championship in 1949 , which the club won after victories over SG Dresden-Friedrichstadt , SG Eintracht Stendal and SG Fortuna Erfurt . The runner-up SG Eintracht Stendal also qualified for the Eastern Zone Championship and lost to the ZSG Union Halle in the semifinals.

Due to the introduction of the GDR Oberliga , the national class was only second class from the coming season. Halle and Stendal qualified for this league. Since BSG Waggonbau Dessau was able to win the FDGB Cup in 1949 , it was also promoted to the new league. For the coming season, the number of teams per season has been increased.
