The Verbandsliga Mittelrhein 1976/77 was the 21st season of the Verbandsliga Mittelrhein , which was the top division in amateur football for men from 1962 to 1978 . From 1974 this league, together with the association leagues Niederrhein and Westfalen, represented the substructure of the 2nd Bundesliga North and was third-class in the German soccer league system of that time .

Season end

The amateurs of 1. FC Köln were Middle Rhine champions, but had no right of promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. Runner-up Siegburg 04 instead took part in the promotion round to the 2nd Bundesliga North . The Siegburger finished second in group North A and had to play two play-offs against the second in group North B, 1. FC Bocholt . Both games were lost 0-1. Thus Siegburg missed promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga. The newly promoted Rhenania Richterich and the amateurs from Fortuna Köln and TuS Lindlar were relegated to the Landesliga Mittelrhein .
