Football coach of the year (Germany)
As coach of the year , a soccer coach is honored annually in Germany as the outstanding one of the season. The trainer of the year is chosen by the members of the Association of German Sport Journalists (VDS) and honored together with the trade journal Kicker-Sportmagazin . Trainers in Germany and German trainers abroad can be considered as candidates. The award has been given since 2002, with Klaus Toppmöller being the first to win the title.
The most successful coaches, each with a total of three awards, are Felix Magath , who was elected coach of the year with three, and Jürgen Klopp , who was elected coach of the year with two different clubs. Klopp is at the same time, with Liverpool FC , the first title holder to work with a foreign soccer team. The first title holder who did not coach a club team at the time of his election was Jürgen Klinsmann (2006). The first and so far only foreign title holder was Louis van Gaal (2010).
