history

The area of the later municipality of Sankt Donat was initially part of the municipality of Sankt Georgen am Längsee, which was founded in the course of the administrative reforms after the revolution of 1848/49 . In July 1893, the cadastral parish of St. Donat applied for removal from this parish and the establishment of a separate parish of Saint Donat. In a vote, two thirds of the participating Sankt Donater voters were in favor of the separation; the majority of the representatives of the rest of the community of Sankt Georgen voted against the separation. The separation was carried out by a state law passed in 1895.

At that time the community had fewer than 700 inhabitants and covered an area of about 13.5 km². Andreas Koch was elected first mayor on October 23, 1895; he held the office until 1908. His successor was Franz Besold. In 1920 the cadastral community of St. Donat was enlarged by around 40 hectares: the northernmost part of the cadastral community of St. Michael am Zollfeld (part of the political community Maria Saal) with Stadlhof Castle and part of the village of Pflugern was connected to the cadastral community of St. Donat. During the July coup of 1934, fierce fighting took place in St. Donat. In 1940 32 Kanaltaler were settled in St. Donat.

On January 1, 1958, the municipality of Sankt Donat was dissolved; the cadastral parish of St. Donat came to the parish of Sankt Veit an der Glan.

As long as it existed, the community belonged to the political district of Sankt Veit an der Glan and to the judicial district of Sankt Veit an der Glan .
