George Dyer

George Dyer (born December 20, 1948 in San Mateo ) is a former American racing driver .

Racing career

George Dyer was the son of George Carter Dyer (1923-2002) and his wife Clarissa . From his father he inherited the passion for motorsport and the extensive automobile collection, which included a Ferrari 250 GTO , a Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and a Jaguar XK 120 .

In the 1970s, George Dyer competed in sports car races with Porsche racing vehicles in North America . He drove in the IMSA GT Championship and finished the 1977 season behind Al Holbert and Hurley Haywood in third place in the overall standings. His greatest success in an international race was overall victory in the Sebring 12-hour race in 1977 . His compatriot Brad Frisselle was a partner in the Porsche 911 Carrera RSR . In 1975 he finished second with Jacques Bienvenue in this endurance race .
