Gerson (born May 20, 1997 in Belford Roxo , Rio de Janeiro ; actually Gerson Santos da Silva ) is a Brazilian football player . The attacking midfielder is under contract with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro .
Career
society
Gerson moved up to the first team squad at Fluminense Rio de Janeiro in October 2014 . He played his first game in Série A on the first day of the 2015 season , a 1-0 win over Joinville EC . On September 26, 2015, he scored his first competitive goal in a 2-0 home win against Goiás EC .
In January 2016, Gerson moved to the Italian first division club AS Roma for around 16 million euros . Due to the non-EU regulation of Serie A, however, he was temporarily not allowed to play and has only been allowed to play in competitive games since July 1, 2016. Therefore, he was loaned back to Fluminense until the end of the season and won the Primeira Liga do Brasil with the club in mid-April 2016 . After his return, Gerson played his first competitive game for the Romans on August 23, 2016 in the playoff second leg of the Champions League against FC Porto . For the 2018/19 season , Gerson was awarded to league rivals Fiorentina . After the season, Gerson returned to his homeland in July 2019. He signed a contract with Flamengo Rio de Janeiro until the end of 2023. The transfer fee was 11.8 million euros (49.7 million real). With the club he won the Copa Libertadores on November 23, 2019 . A day later, the preliminary decision in favor of Flamengo was made in the 2019 Brazilian championship and Gerson was also able to celebrate this title.
National team
Gerson made his debut on August 14, 2014 in a 0-0 friendly against Ecuador in the Brazilian U20 national team . In early 2015 he played with the team at the U20 South American Championship in Uruguay . In the final round he reached fourth place with the team.
