Today's district town Gołdap (Goldap) is 16 kilometers east, the former district capital Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ) 21 kilometers southwest.

history

Originally consisting of a small farm, Schopauen and later the Schupowen manor district was founded in 1556. 1874 was the small town to the recently completed District Surminnen ( Polish Surminy ), which until 1945 the district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged. In 1910 Schupowen had 17 inhabitants.

On September 30, 1928, the Schupowen manor district gave up its independence and merged with the rural communities of Kulsen ( Kulsze in Polish ) and Ziemianen (Ziemiany) to form the new rural community of Kulsen.

In 1938 Schupowen was renamed Schuppau , but this did not last long: Since the place came to Poland in 1945 as a result of the war with southern East Prussia , it has had the Polish form of name Czupowo .

Czupowo now belongs to the Schulzenamt ( Polish Sołectwo ) Gryżewo (Griesgirren , 1938–1945 Grieswalde) and is a place in the rural community Banie Mazurskie in the powiat Gołdapski , until 1998 part of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmia-Masurian Voivodeship .

Religions

Until 1945, the majority Protestant population of Schupowens or Schuppau was parish in the parish of the church in Benkheim (Banie Mazurskie) in the parish of Angerburg in the church province of East Prussia of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union , while the Roman Catholic church members were parish with the church in Angerburg (Węgorzewo) belonged in the diocese of Warmia .

That changed in the post-war years: the previously Protestant church in Banie Mazurskie is now the responsible Catholic parish church in the Gołdap deanery in the diocese of Ełk (Lyck) of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland , while the Protestant church members now belong to the church in Gołdap , a branch church the parish in Suwałki in the diocese of Masuria of the Evangelical-Augsburg Church in Poland .
