Sapałówka ( German Sapallen , 1938 to 1945 Ostau ) is a village in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the rural community Banie Mazurskie (Benkheim) in the powiat Gołdapski ( Goldap district ).
Geographical location
Sapałówka is located on the north bank of the Goldap ( Polish Gołdapa ) in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship . The district town of Gołdap (Goldap) is located 15 kilometers northeast, the former district capital Angerburg ( Polish : Węgorzewo ) is 23 kilometers to the west.
history
Sapallen , which was called Matzapallen before 1785 , was founded in 1576. It was later a small village with an estate that was incorporated into the newly established district of Surminnen ( Polish: Surminy ) in 1874. This was until 1945 part of the circle Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia .
In 1910, Sapallen with the residential area Schönbund ( Ziemianki in Polish ) had a total of 245 inhabitants. Their number fell to 236 by 1925, was only 225 in 1933 and was still 229 in 1939.
On June 3 (officially confirmed on July 16) of the year 1938, Sapellen was renamed "Ostau" for political and ideological reasons to avoid foreign-sounding place names. Sapałówka lies on the opposite bank of the Goldap from Surminy . Surminy is located on the important regional road DW 650 (former German Reichsstraße 136 ) and offers Sapałówka convenient access to the road network. A railway connection no longer exists, since 1945 the Angerburg – Goldap railway line with the nearest railway station Banie Mazurskie (Benkheim) is no longer in operation.
