Ziemiany ( German  Ziemianen ) is a place in the Polish Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship and belongs to the rural community of Banie Mazurskie in the powiat Gołdapski ( Goldap district ).

Geographical location

Ziemiany is located in the northeast of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship , 15 kilometers southwest of the district town Gołdap (Goldap) and 23 kilometers northeast of the former district capital Angerburg ( Polish Węgorzewo ).

history

Szemjahnen , originally consisting of a small homestead, was founded in 1566. In 1874 it came to the newly established District Surminnen ( Polish Surminy ), which existed until 1945 and for district Angerburg in Administrative district Gumbinnen the Prussian province of East Prussia belonged.

In 1910 Ziemianen had 214 inhabitants. On September 30, 1928, it gave up its independence by merging with the neighboring towns of Kulsen ( Polish: Kulsze ) and Schupowen (1938 to 1945: Schuppau, Polish: Czupowo) to form the new rural community of Kulsen.

In war-induced Ziemianen 1945 came with the entire southern East Prussia to Poland and carries since then the Polish form of the name "Ziemiany". Today it is part of the rural community Banie Mazurskie in the powiat Gołdapski , before 1998 part of the Suwałki Voivodeship , since then part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship .
