Gintaras Januševičius (born January 16, 1985 in Moscow ) is a Lithuanian pianist . His repertoire includes interpretations of works by Rachmaninoff , Chopin , Liszt and Mussorgsky , but also many works by Lithuanian composers.

education

Gintaras Januševičius was born in Moscow into a family of musicians. His father is the Lithuanian trumpeter Algirdas Januševičius and his mother the Tatar-Jewish composer Nailia Galiamova. In 1987 the family left Moscow and moved to Klaipėda , Lithuania. Januševičius began his musical training at the age of four at the Eduardas Balsys Art High School . In 1993 the family decided to move to the capital Vilnius , where his father was appointed principal trumpeter in the Lithuanian State Orchestra , which was directed by Gintaras Rinkevičius . Januševičius then began his musical training at the National Mikalojus-Konstantinas-Čiurlionis - School of Arts .

Gintaras Januševičius received his first piano lessons from Valentina Potejenko in Klaipėda. He was later taught by Valė Kulikauskienė (1993–1998) and Jurgis Bialobžeskis (1998–2003). After graduating from school in 2003, Gintaras began studying at the Lithuanian Music and Theater Academy with Jurgis Bialobžeskis. This remained his teacher and most important advisor until his death in May 2008. In 2004 Januševičius moved to Hanover, Germany, to the University of Music, Drama and Media , where he was taught by Vladimir Krainew until his death in April 2011. In October 2011 he entered the piano class of the German pianist Bernd Goetzke .

Since 2001 he has also received lessons from numerous well-known pianists, in particular from Lazar Berman and his wife Valentina, Naum Starkman , Malcolm Bilson , Zvi Meniker , Jan Philip Schulze , Ewa Kupiec and others.

Gintaras Januševičius won his first two national competitions Balys Dvarionas and Johann Sebastian Bach at the age of 16 . In 2002 he won the 'Grand Prix' at the Frédéric Chopin International Piano Competition in Narva , Estonia . In 2003 he reached the final of the International MK Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition in Vilnius and in 2004 the final of the International Concours Musical International de Montréal . In 2005 he won the Yamaha Prize in Lithuania. In 2006 he reached the final of the 1st Tallinn International Piano Competition. In 2007 he won 3rd prizes at the International Piano Competition “ Piano Campus ” in France and at the International MK Čiurlionis Piano and Organ Competition. In March 2010 he was awarded 2nd prize and the Patrizia Cerutti Prize for the best performance of a Beethoven sonata at the International Pinerolo Piano Competition in Italy . Two months later he won 2nd prize at the “ Neue Sterne ” international piano competition in Wernigerode and first prize at the “ Palma ” international piano competition - the Rotary Club of Palma rewarded Gintaras with concerts in Spain in 2010 and 2011 , both as a soloist as well as with orchestra. In the same year he won 2nd prize at the XIX International Ibiza Piano Competition. His most recent successes, both in 2011: 1st prize at the 13th International Competition of the Chopin Society in Hanover, Germany, and a special prize at the Shenzhen Piano Competition in China .

Important concerts

Gintaras Januševičius made his orchestral debut at the age of 15. He played the Capriccio Brillante, Op. 25 by Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy with the Lithuanian State Orchestra under the direction of Vytautas Lukočius. In the same month he played the Piano Concerto in A major, K. 488 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the great hall of the Moscow Conservatory .

Current activities

Gintaras Januševičius has lived in Hanover since 2004 . 2008–2015 he was the artistic director of the chamber music series “ Plathner's Eleven ” in Hanover. Gintaras Januševičius has been the director of the TangoBrücke concert and cultural center in Einbeck since January 2014 .

Since 2009 he has given open master classes in Brazil, Japan, China, Germany, Spain, Israel , Lithuania, Romania and Moldova . Since 2017 he has been artistic director and piano professor at the "Feuerwerk" piano academy in Einbeck and the "Klaipėda Piano Masters" summer academy in Klaipėda.
