The Girabola 1997 was the 19th season of Girabola , the top division in football in Angola . 14 teams took part, each of which had to compete against each other twice. It was the last season with 14 teams for the time being, before the league returned to its 16-team system in the following 1998 season.

Record champion Petro Luanda from the capital Luanda was again national champion. He also won the Angolan Cup but lost to Cup finalists Primeiro de Agosto in the Angolan Supercup .

Petro Huambos striker Zé Neli was the top scorer of the 1997 season with 12 goals.

table

Presumably due to the turmoil and destruction of the Angolan civil war (1975–2002), hardly any data are recorded for the season and no detailed final table has been preserved. Only the first place of Petro Luanda and the second place of the DG Sagrada Esperança from Dundo are secured . The clubs listed here as promoted and relegated clubs, on the other hand, result from the changes to the clubs in the following and previous seasons.
