The Girabola 2017 was the 39th season of the Girabola , the highest Angolan league for football men. 16 teams took part, each of which competed against each other twice. The season started on February 10, 2017 and ended with matchday 30 on November 5, 2017.
After Sport Luanda e Benfica withdrew its participation in Girabola 2017 for financial reasons on January 24th, relegated Estrela Clube Primeiro de Maio returned to the first division.
A serious accident occurred on the first matchday on February 10, 2017: during the encounter between Santa Rita FC and CRD Libolo at Estádio 4 de Janeiro in Uíge , access to the stadium ranks collapsed. 17 people perished under the feet of the people streaming in, 61 or, according to later information, 59 were injured, some of them life-threateningly.
At the end of the season, defending champion CD Primeiro de Agosto from the capital Luanda celebrated his eleventh championship title, Atlético Petróleos Luanda was cup winner. The game of the two for the Supertaça de Angola , the Angolan Supercup, was scheduled for February 4, 2018, but could not be played due to bad weather and was not made up for.
