A month has passed since the rampage. All doctors involved in this have to seek advice from the psychologist Dr. Have Andrew Perkins returned to work. Miranda removes the bullet from Alex's chest so as not to be reminded of the rampage every day. Callie isn't thrilled that Arizona is looking to redesign her apartment. Mark tries to protect Lexie and treats her like a madwoman in the process. When he wants to speak to her to propose to her, she refuses the interview because she does not understand his motives.

When it emerges that April is still a virgin, she is bullied by the doctors of her year. April struggles, however, and makes it clear to them that each of them has an embarrassing secret. Richard also helps Alex get a grip on his fear of the elevator, in which he almost bled to death. Miranda is appalled by the way Lexie deals with a wounded patient. Callie is unsure whether Arizona will accept the baby, however. The three spend a lot of time together with the gynecologist Dr. Lucy Fields, when Callie is bleeding and fears that something is wrong with her child. Mark reports his fatherhood to Lexie, who is furious about it. After Richard initially forbids Miranda to tweet from the operating room , he finally takes a liking to it himself when a patient can be saved.

Lexie's and Meredith's father is hospitalized again with stomach pain caused by kidney stones. However, Alex completely takes over and goes into debt. However, through an old woman whom he blackmailed shortly before her death, Alex still gets money. Derek and Meredith are now treating Adele after a patient dies of heart disease. After Andrew gets back to Seattle, Teddy starts a relationship with Andrew again, to Henry's chagrin. Dr. Stark avoids April after she has turned him off.

Meredith and Derek decide to adopt Zola, an African toddler who was brought to Seattle for surgery. For this Meredith and Derek marry alone in the registry office. Alex learns that Meredith manipulated the Alzheimer's study for Adele by making sure that Adele was given the drug instead of a placebo as intended. Alex threatens Meredith to tell Derek. Callie suffers from the fact that her family does not accept her homosexuality. So she sends them home shortly before their wedding ceremony. Callie is on the verge of a nervous breakdown when the only pastor she wanted to marry turns down. Miranda ultimately trusts Arizona and Callie, and the wedding is saved. Callie's father returns and makes up with his daughter. Dr. Stark advertises Owen April as a ward doctor.

Meredith and Derek hope the Adoption Board will approve Zola's adoption. After Lucy snatches the job in Africa from Alex and Alex realizes that he is out of the question for the ward doctor position, he angrily informs Owen that Meredith has manipulated the Alzheimer's study. Callie has her first day at work while Mark takes care of Sofia. However, it doesn't keep him at home and so he visits the hospital with Sofia. After Richard enrolled Henry in his diabetes study, Henry got back to his old job and was insured again. Therefore, with a heavy heart, he wants to divorce Teddy when she informs him that she wants to move to Germany with Andrew. Jackson breaks off his study. When Owen investigates this fact, he finds out that Jackson abandoned the study so Richard would have a chance of an award.

After Alex informs Owen about Meredith's crime, Derek and Richard also find out about it. Derek is deeply disappointed in Meredith and has to stop the study. Since it was an advantage for Adele, Richard Meredith does not quit, but her reputation in the hospital is ruined. The only bright spot is that she can now officially adopt Zola and take her home. Lucy tells Cristina that she is pregnant. Cristina wants to have the baby aborted. However, Owen is against it and so Christina leaves her husband. Alex has to move out of Meredith's house because of his testimony. Frustrated, he gets drunk in Joe's bar. When Lucy comes to ask him if she doesn't want to go to Africa for him, he berates her and Lucy leaves Seattle disappointed. Miranda takes Eli a big step and takes him home with her. Mark gives Jackson his blessing for his relationship with Lexie. Teddy decides not to go to Germany with Andrew and instead wants to stay with Henry.
