Halapoulivaati Vaitai (born June 16, 1993 in Fort Worth , Texas ) is an American football player on the offensive tackle position , who currently plays for the Detroit Lions in the National Football League (NFL). His parents are from Tonga .

Early years

Vaitai attended high school with his two younger brothers in Haltom City , Texas . He later attended Texas Christian University .

NFL

Philadelphia Eagles

In the 2016 NFL Draft , Vaitai was selected 164th in the fifth round by the Philadelphia Eagles . After Lane Johnson, who actually started on the position of the right tackle, was suspended for ten games in his rookie season , Vaitai played his first NFL game as a starter on the fifth day of the season. On the eleventh game day he injured himself, so that he no longer played for the rest of the season. In the 2017 season he again took over the position of the right tackle for the injured Lane Johnson. From the seventh game day he took over the position of the left tackle for the injured Jason Peters . He reached the Super Bowl LI with the Eagles , which was won 41:33 against the New England Patriots .
