NFL

In the 2013 NFL Draft , Barner was selected by the Carolina Panthers in the 6th round as the 182nd player.

Carolina Panthers

In his rookie season with the Panthers, Barner was mostly only used in the special teams .
After the season, Barner was transferred to the
Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a round 7 pick of the 2015 NFL Draft .

Philadelphia Eagles

Barner initially played for the Eagles from 2014 to 2016 , spending the entire 2014 season in the team's practice squad . With the Eagles, too, he mainly worked as a return specialist before becoming a free agent after the end of his contract after the 2016 season .

As a free agent, Barner was signed by the Los Angeles Chargers , but was released before the start of the 2017 season and did not play a single regular season game for the Chargers .
He returned to the Eagles on matchday 5 of the 2017 season and got a new contract after running back Darren Sproles tore a
cruciate ligament and was out for the rest of the season. He reached the play-offs with the Eagles this season , was NFC champion in the course and reached the Super Bowl ( LII ), which they could win against the New England Patriots .

After the 2017 season, his contract with the Eagles expired and Barner became a free agent again.

Carolina Panthers (2nd period)

On May 11, 2018, Barner signed a one-year contract with the Carolina Panthers, returning to his first NFL team. Before the start of the regular season , however, Barner was dismissed as part of the compilation of the final season squad.

New England Patriots

After the 1st matchday of the 2018 season , Barner was signed by the New England Patriots , who replaced their injured running back Jeremy Hill .

Carolina Panthers (3rd period)

After his release from the Patriots on November 13, 2018, the Carolina Panthers announced Barner's renewed engagement just a day later.

Atlanta Falcons

On March 14, 2019, the Falcons signed Barner to replace their running back Tevin Coleman, who had migrated to the San Francisco 49ers . On November 17, 2019, in the game against the Carolina Panthers, he scored his first punt return touchdown.
