Frank Michael Reich junior (* 4. December 1961 in Freeport , New York ) is an American American football trainer and former quarterback . Reich is currently Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts in the NFL . Before that, he was an assistant coach for several other teams, including winning the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles .

Career

Career as a player

After his high school graduation Empire began for the University of Maryland as a quarterback to play. There he was initially a backup for Boomer Esiason . He later became a starter and also took part in several bowl games.

In 1985, Reich was selected 57th in the NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills . Reich was mainly a backup there, this time behind Jim Kelly . In the following nine years at the Bills, Reich was used in a total of 106 games, including Super Bowl XXVII , but only started in 10 games. In 1995, he switched to the Carolina Panthers , who started their first season as an expansion team . So he threw the first touchdown pass in the history of the Panthers. After 3 games he was only a backup again, this time behind Kerry Collins . That's why he moved to the New York Jets after only one year , where he only stayed for a year. After two more years with the Detroit Lions , Reich ended his active career in 1998. Overall, the backup quarterback role never came out. He had 132 appearances, but only started in 22 games.

Career as a coach

Reich began working as a coach in 2006 when he became a coaching intern with the Indianapolis Colts . From 2008 he was permanently integrated into the coaching team as an assistant coach. In 2011, however, he was released as part of the coaching team under Head Coach Jim Caldwell . In 2012 he coached the wide receivers at the Arizona Cardinals for a year before coaching the quarterbacks at the San Diego Chargers in 2013 . There he was promoted to offensive coordinator under head coach Mike McCoy in 2013 , but was fired again after only two seasons. As a result, Reich became the Philadelphia Eagles' offensive coordinator under head coach Doug Pederson in 2016 . In his second year he was able to win the Super Bowl with the Eagles .

As a result, Reich was named the new Head Coach of the Indianapolis Colts on February 11, 2018. In its first season, the Colts were able to reach the playoffs directly after winning nine of the last 10 games. There they failed, however, in the Divisional Round at the Kansas City Chiefs . In his second season, the Colts could not reach the playoffs, in the end they won only 7 games with 9 losses.
