The Harzburger Music Days have been in 1970 , the annual music festival of Bad Harzburg in Lower Saxony .

history

The Harzburger Musiktage was founded in 1970 by Luz Leskowitz . In 1988 the concert series was recognized as an international festival .

Since then, six to eight concerts have been offered every June . In the early years, the concerts were given in the old casino, today's spa center. Today the festival has changing concert venues, such as the Luther Church (Bad Harzburg) , the Kaiserpfalz Goslar , the knight's hall in Bündheim Castle , the Werner von Siemens Gymnasium (Bad Harzburg) , the Wolf coffee house (Bad Harzburg), the Harzers Volksbank Bad Harzburg, the Kurhaus Bad Harzburg or the new Sonnenresort Ettershaus.

In the second and third decade of the Harzburger Musiktage, the concert series often had a motto such as B. 1988 - Denmark as a guest . Other countries were France and Austria as well as the music metropolises Dresden , Berlin and Hamburg .

Two ensembles were also founded during the Harzburg Music Days . In 1979 the Salzburg soloists gave their founding concert in the Kaiserpfalz Goslar and in 1989 the Ensemble Wien-Berlin had its first public concert in Bad Harzburg.

Until 2005, the artistic director of the Harzburger Musiktage was the violinist Luz Leskowitz.

In 2019 the International Festival will celebrate a big anniversary with the 50th Harzburg Music Days. This birthday was not only celebrated with the usual traditional festival week. To mark the beginning of the anniversary, there was a concert on March 15 in the Kurhaus Bad Harzburg with the NDR Radiophilharmonie under the direction of Andrew Manze and Francesco Piemontesi at the piano. After the festival week in June, there was the big anniversary finale on November 16, with two concerts, in Venice with the Quartetto di Venezia and Simone Kermes & Friends.

The Harzburger Musiktage is the third oldest classical music festival in Lower Saxony .

Sponsorship

On July 1, 1972, the Society for the Promotion of the Harzburg Music Days was founded.

The society was able to secure the financing of the Harzburg Music Days through its association contributions of an average of 240 members as well as donations and funds from the state, the city, the health resort and - until 1990 - the zone border funding. After the reunification of Germany, fewer and fewer public funds were available.

In order to maintain the charisma and quality of the music festival, it became an imperative for the funding company to redesign the management for the preparation and implementation of the festival. The funding company won sponsorship from cultural foundations and well-known companies for the Harzburg Music Days.
