Havok (from havoc , English for devastation ) is an American thrash metal band from Denver . The band was formed in 2004 and is under contract with Century Media . The group's discography includes five studio albums.

history

Early years (2004 to 2008)

The band was formed in February 2004 by singer and guitarist David Sanchez and his classmates Marcus Corich ( bass ) and Haakon Sjoegren ( drums ). After a few jam sessions , the musicians looked for a second guitarist via a flyer . Shawn Chavez completed the first band line-up, who released the first demo called Thrash Can a year later . Marcus Corich and Haakon Sjoegren have been replaced by Tyler Cantrell and Richie Tice. The second demo Murder by Metal followed a year later.

In 2007 the EP Pwn 'em All was released . The title is a parody of the Metallica album Kill 'Em All . Again there were several line-up changes. Tyler Cantrell was represented at several concerts by his brother and drummer Richie Tice was replaced by Ryan Alexander Bloom. The musicians applied for the EP in the winter of 2007 at various metal labels and were finally signed by Candlelight Records . With Jesse De Los Santos a new bass player was hired in autumn 2008.

Burn and Time Is Up (2009 to 2011)

On June 2, 2009, the debut album Burn was released. Shortly before the release, drummer Ryan Alexander Bloom left the band and was replaced by Scott Fuller and a year later by Pete Webber. Shawn Chavez also left the band, which played numerous concerts in support of bands such as Destruction , Exodus and Into Eternity as a trio . With Reece Scruggs the band was completed again in 2010. In early 2011, Havok took part in the United Hate Across America Tour with Malevolent Creation , Full Blown Chaos and Beyond Terror Beyond Grace .

In April 2011 the second album Time Is Up was released , which was mastered by James Murphy and received very good reviews. Patrick Schmidt from the German magazine Rock Hard called Time Is Up the Thrash album of the year and stated that "well-known competitors from the Bay Arena have to warm up". In the following months Havok played numerous concerts in the opening act of bands such as Forbidden , Sepultura , Death Angel or Anthrax and in 2012 played at the first edition of the Barge to Hell festival , which takes place on a cruise ship .

Point of No Return and Unnatural Selection (2012 to 2014)

At the same time as the European tour in the opening act of the Canadian band 3 Inches of Blood , Havok released the EP Point of No Return , which contains two original compositions as well as cover versions by Sepultura and Slayer . Bassist Jesse De Los Santos left Havok in late 2012 because he wanted to spend more time with his family. His successor was Mike Leon, who had previously played in the band The Absence . In February 2013 Havok played in the opening act of Testament in Denver after the singer of the actual opening act Overkill Bobby Ellsworth fell ill. In the spring of 2013 Havok recorded their third studio album Unnatural Selection , which was mixed by Terry Date . The album contains a cover version of Black Sabbath with Children of the Grave .

Unnatural Selection was released on June 25, 2013 and sold over 2,500 times in the US in the first week after its release . The album entered the US album charts at number 186. Havok played at the Heavy MONTRÉAL and Rock Al Parque festivals in Bogota , before a North American tour in support of Soulfly and then a headlining tour in Europe with Angelus Apatrida followed. In July 2014 the band signed a record deal with the German label Century Media and went on a European tour with Suffocation and Skeletonwitch . This was followed by a North American tour as the opening act for Crowbar .

Conformicide and V (since 2014)

Founding member Shawn Chavez passed away in April 2015 at the age of 30. The cause of death is unknown. In the summer of 2015, the band began work on their fourth studio album. In the meantime, Mike Leon left the band to go on tour with Soulfly. He was succeeded by Nick Schendzielos, who also plays in Cephalic Carnage and Job for a Cowboy . In February and March 2016 Havok went on a North American tour together with the Suicidal Tendencies and Children of Bodom as support acts for Megadeth . After the tour ended, the recordings for their fourth studio album began.

Havok was supposed to play on another tour in the opening act of Megadeth in autumn 2016 together with Amon Amarth , the Suicidal Tendencies and Metal Church . However, the band was presented with a contract that they claimed was unacceptable. After Havok refused to sign the contract, the band was dismissed. Megadeth singer Dave Mustaine called Havok's allegations a lie. The release of the fourth studio album Conformicide took place on March 10, 2017. With the album produced by Steve Evetts, the band reached the German album charts for the first time, where Conformicide placed 94th.

Havok released their fifth studio album V on May 1st, 2020 . Brandon Bruce joined the band for the retired bassist Nick Schendzielos.
