Hiltersdorf is located in a water protection area in the district of Amberg-Sulzbach . 3/4 of the drinking water for the city of Amberg comes from here , but the water for the old town itself is spring water from the Krumbach stream from the Urspring Forest. The water is extracted from five deep wells in the Hiltersdorf-Paulsdorf-Engelsdorf-Freihölser Forest area and then processed in the Engelsdorf waterworks. With 5 to 7 dH, the water hardness of Hiltersdorf water can be classified as soft.
