The University for Artistic and Industrial Design Linz (also known as the Art University Linz for short ) is an artistic university in the Upper Austrian capital Linz .
history
The art school of the city of Linz was founded in 1947 as a signal to differentiate itself from the previous Nazi art policy and explicitly as an intellectual and practical place to tie in with the Bauhaus ideas of the 1920s and 1930s.
1973 University collected and since 2000 the university status , today's University of Arts and Industrial Design Linz wearing her profile in its history and in specific regional conditions.
Focus
Three focal points form the basis for research and teaching:
- Intermediality : In the course of establishing a media focus of the highest quality, investments are made in the most modern resources on an ongoing basis. Cooperation at all levels creates an internationally active research, education and information center for art, education, science and business.
- Spatial strategies : The University of Art and Design Linz positions itself within those international tendencies that make the formerly rigid dividing lines between the individual disciplines obsolete. On the basis of excellent specialist training, cross-sectional competencies in areas such as architecture, design, spatial planning, communication and aesthetics are increasingly being established in training, research and development processes and specific projects.
- Artistic-scientific research : In order to be able to convey the latest trends and innovative findings, the University of Art and Design Linz concentrates on one of its core competencies: artistic-scientific research.
Spatial expansion
The art university is located on the main square in the bridgehead buildings south of the Nibelungen Bridge . These were planned and built during the time of National Socialism, previously served as finance (office) buildings in the West and East, and in 1965 the only paternoster lifts in Upper Austria were located there. With the partial lifting of the monument protection (from 2008) at the end of 2013, the interior of the 4th upper floors could be rebuilt and the top floors replaced by a glass structure, as planned by the winner of the 2009 competition, Adolf Krischanitz .
