Miniature King David from the Egbert Psalter (10th century)

Hodu ( Hebrew "הוֹדוּ [לה 'קָרְאוּ בִּשְּׂמוֹ]"; dt. "Worship God, proclaim his name"), also Hodu formula or Hodu psalm , is a prayer of thanksgiving and belongs to Psalm 118. It comes from the 1st book of the Chronicle ( book of psalms , psalm headings ) 16: 8- 36 and is one of the longer thanksgiving prayers. It was prayed first in the time of King David , after which it became the standard prayer. Psalm 105.1; 106.1 and 107.1 begin with the Hodu formula. This belongs to the basic stock in all three psalms. The Hodu formula connects these history psalms with the following Psalm 107. The "Hodu formula" / "Hodu psalms" are part of the Psuke desimra on Shacharit and Shabbat .
