Wa-jewarech David

Wa-jewarech David ( Hebrew "וַיְבָרֶךְ דָּוִיד [אֶת ה 'לְעֵינִי כל הקָהָל]"; dt. "David blessed God before the eyes of the community") is a Jewish prayer .

It is recited during the Shacharit (morning prayer) during the Psuke desimra . It consists of verses 10–13 of chapter 29 of Book 1 of the Chronicles .

The recitation of these verses was introduced by Rabbi Meir von Rothenburg in the 13th century .

Temple of Solomon, reconstruction (first temple)

The verses were originally formed by King David when he blessed the entire congregation and provided the means to have the temple built (by the son of Solomon). Hence it has become a Jewish custom to say this prayer every time resources are laid out in the context of the Zedaka (except for Shabbat and Yom Tov ).

King David mentioned only the ancestor Jacob and none of the other patriarchs in these verses. Jacob was the only patriarch who made a tithing vow . In some Sephardic communities the collection box for the collection bears the inscription: וַיְבָרֶךְ דָּוִיד ( wa-jewarech David ; Eng. "He blessed David").

The 2nd Book of Kings 12: 9-11 EU describes how the Solomonic Temple was rebuilt during the reign of King Joasch using money that temple visitors threw into a hole in the ark when they left the temple.

וַיְבָרֶךְ דָּוִיד אֶת ה 'לְעֵינֵי כָּל הַקָּהָל. וַיּאמֶר דָּוִיד בָּרוּךְ אַתָּה ה 'אֱלהֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל אָבִינוּ מֵעולָם וְעַד עולָם: לְךָ ה' הַגְּדֻלָּה וְהַגְּבוּרָה וְהַתִּפְאֶרֶת וְהַנֵּצַח ּבָאָוְיַ הכול ְוְיַ. לְךָ ה 'הַמַּמְלָכָה וְהַמִּתְנַשֵּׂא לְכל לְראשׁ: וְהָעשֶׁר וְהַכָּבוד מִלְּפָנֶיךָ וְאַתָּה מושֵׁל בַּכּל וּבְיָדְךָ כּחַ וּגְבוּרָה. וּבְיָדְךָ לְגַדֵּל וּלְחַזֵּק לַכּל: וְעַתָּה אֱלהֵינוּ מודִים אֲנַחְנוּ לָךְ. וּמְהַלְלִים לְשֵׁם תִּפְאַרְתֶּךָ: וִיבָרְכוּ שֵׁם כְּבדֶךָ וּמְרומַם עַל כָּל בְּרָכָה וּתְהִלָּה:  "

“David blessed God before the eyes of the whole community, and David said: Blessed are you God, God of Israel our Father, from the most distant past to the distant future. Yours, God, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for Yours is everything in heaven and on earth; Yours is rulership and whatever rises to head to anyone. And wealth and honor emanate from you, and you rule over everything, in your hand there is power and power, in your hand there is greatness and strength to give everything. And now, our God, we thank you and express our praise of deeds in the name of your glory. "
