Howhannes Batschkow , Armenian ; Հովհաննես Բաչկով, English ; Hovhannes Bachkov (* 2. December 1992 in Gjumri , Armenia ) is an Armenian boxer in the Welterweight (60 to 64 kg).
Career
The roughly 1.73 m tall left boom started boxing in 2004 and won a bronze medal at the European Junior Championships in Bulgaria in 2008 . At the 2010 World Youth Championships in Azerbaijan he remained medalless, but won an international tournament in Armenia in 2011 with victories against Anvar Junusov and Aram Avagjan .
In his first major elite competitions, the 2011 European Championships in Turkey and the 2011 World Championships in Azerbaijan, he was eliminated from Dmitri Polyanski and Dordschnjambuugiin Otgondalai before he reached the medal ranks .
In 2013 he was noticed at a tournament in Ukraine when he defeated Fazliddin Gʻoibnazarov and Dmitro Chernyak and was only eliminated in the final at 11:15 against Pavlo Ishchenko . At the 2013 European Championships in Belarus and the 2013 World Championships in Kazakhstan , he retired early again.
In 2014 he won a tournament in Serbia , beating Arthur Biyarslanov , among others . At the 2015 European Games in Azerbaijan he was defeated in the first fight against Viktor Petrov , while at the 2015 European Championships in Bulgaria he was eliminated in the quarter-finals against Evaldas Petrauskas . At the 2015 World Championships in Qatar , he also made it to the quarter-finals by winning against Lim Hyun-Chul (3-0) and Aziz Bebitow (3-0), where he lost to Yasniel Toledo (3-0). At this point he already had around 160 fights in his record.
In April 2016 he took part in the European Olympic qualification in Turkey. He defeated Antoine Vanackère (TKO), Vincenzo Arecchia (3-0) and Pat McCormack (2-1) before losing to Evaldas Petrauskas (0-3) in the semi- finals. In the last decisive duel , he lost to Batuhan Gözgeç (0: 3). However, in July 2016 he won the World Olympic Qualification Tournament in Venezuela , beating Raymond Moylette (3-0), Wolodymyr Matwytschuk (3-0) and Thulasi Tharumalingam (TKO). He then started at the Olympic Games in Brazil in August 2016 and defeated Luis Arcón (2: 1) before he was eliminated in the round of 16 with 1: 2 against Hu Qianxun .
In February 2017 he won a tournament in Hungary , defeating Wuttichai Masuk , while in April he won another tournament in Georgia . His greatest success to date was at the 2017 European Championships in Ukraine. He reached the final against Dmitri Galagot (3: 2), Richárd Kovács (5: 0) and Mateusz Polski (5: 0), where he defeated Luke McCormack (5: 0) and became European champion. He was thus qualified for the 2017 World Championships in Hamburg , where he defeated Begdaulet Ibragimov and Battarsukh Chinzorig. In the semifinals he was eliminated from Andy Cruz Gómez and won a bronze medal.
At the 2019 European Games in Belarus, he defeated James McGivern, Alexandros Tsanikidis, Enrico Lacruz and Sofiane Oumiha and won the gold medal. He then started at the 2019 World Championships in Yekaterinburg and defeated Somchay Wongsuwan, José Viáfara and Leonel de los Santos , before losing to Keyshawn Davis in the semifinals and was eliminated with a bronze medal at a World Cup for the second time.
