The S4000-1 (for Sachsenring, 4000 kg ) was a medium-weight truck manufactured by the "Ernst Grube" Werdau motor vehicle plant . In 1958/1959 the vehicle was manufactured in a preliminary stage as the S4000 .

history

In 1958 the S4000 replaced the H3A in Zwickau. Outwardly hardly changed, the increase in the payload to four tons in particular provided added value. In addition, the wheelbase was lengthened by 300 mm. Springs, front axle and frame have been reinforced. The tractor still had a shortened wheelbase. In the same year, series production of the S4000-1 began, the drive of which brought further advances. The engine output increased from 59 to 66 kW. In addition, the car received a new synchronized gearbox, as well as a rubber-mounted driver's cab. Both types were briefly built in parallel. At the beginning of 1959, production of the S4000 ran out after just over 2000 vehicles.

Production of the S4000-1 also ended a little later in Zwickau in order to create new capacities for car production. From then on, the S4000-1 was built in the “Ernst Grube” Werdau motor vehicle plant, where production of the popular IFA H6 had to be stopped instead. Due to a lack of investment volume, available production capacities could only be reallocated, but not expanded. The IFA G5 , also manufactured in Werdau, should also be stopped. At the urging of the NVA , however, production was continued parallel to the S4000-1 until 1965. In 1967, S4000-1 production finally ended in Werdau after 21,000 copies. The largest export customers were Poland , Bulgaria , Vietnam and Cuba .
