Act

Islamic Forum Penzberg

In the Upper Bavarian city of Penzberg , a mosque that was distinguished for its modern architecture was opened in 2005 with the construction of the Islamic Forum Penzberg . The imam and his community are perceived locally and throughout Bavaria as an example of successful integration and enjoy broad support from the population, the church communities and politics. The 20th anniversary of the establishment of the “Islamic Community Penzberg” and at the same time the 10th anniversary of the “Islamic Forum Penzberg” was celebrated with a festival in October 2015. As the keynote speaker, the former Justice Minister Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger praised the commitment of the Imam and his community to integration, democracy and the rule of law . On December 2, 2019, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier visited the Islamic Forum Penzberg, accompanied by Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann .

Munich Forum for Islam

In 2007 Imam Idriz initiated the project Center for Islam in Europe - Munich (ZIE-M) with employees from Penzberg and Munich , which was registered as a non-profit association under his chairmanship in 2009 and renamed the Munich Forum for Islam (MFI) in 2013 . According to the association's statutes, the project is committed to “promoting the identity of Muslims living here in a sense that is committed to Islam as a peaceful religion based on the values of the rule of law” and to “constructive cooperation with all interested institutions in the city and the state , society, religious communities and comparable institutions “To participate in the association, the commitment to the Basic Law and the Bavarian Constitution is required. The MFI has been a member of the Munich Alliance for Tolerance, Democracy and the Rule of Law since 2010 .

The MFI is planning a building complex that will include a community center, an academy, a mosque and a museum for Islam in Europe. In January 2015, plans by the Alen Jasarevic architecture firm were presented to the public. The city of Munich has reserved a plot of land in the so-called creative quarter on Dachauer Strasse , and in return expects proof of financing that has not yet been provided. If the deadlines, which have been extended several times (June 30, 2016 for proof of the property costs, December 31, 2016 for proof of construction costs) expire again, according to press reports, Idriz will no longer pursue the project.

The MFI has been supported by a board of trustees made up of around 40 members, including Heinrich Bedford-Strohm , Alois Glück , Mustafa Ceric , Aiman Mazyek , Steven Langnas , Karl-Heinz Hoffmann , the chairwoman of the White Rose Foundation , Hildegard Kronawitter , and Winfried Nerdinger . The chairman is Munich's former mayor Christian Ude .

At the end of 2016 it was reported that the project had failed because the financier from Saudi Arabia withdrew its commitment.

Helferkreis Munich Muslims

On the initiative of Idriz, the Helferkreis Münchner Muslime (HMM) was founded in autumn 2015 , which declares that it will coordinate aid activities by Muslims for refugees arriving in Munich regardless of their ethnic or religious affiliation. In December 2015 Imam Idriz published a brochure aimed at Muslim migrants in German, Arabic and English , the basic rules of living together in Germany in areas such as “Basic Law”, “Equal Rights”, “Environment” and the like. a. each based on Islamic sources from the Koran and Sunna .

Controversy

TV report "Report Munich"

A report by the TV magazine report Munich in January 2012 showed that Idriz had a master's degree in Islamic theology at Al-Ouzai University in Beirut on its homepage incorrectly as “Mag. in Islamic Theology ”, which implied the possibility of a title fraud. Idriz stated that at no time did he use the title “Mag.” Or anything like that as an addition to his name. He completed his master's degree at Al-Ouzai University in 2014 in the subject “Contemporary Islamic Thought”. In the same TV broadcast, the research result showed that the Institut Européen des Sciences Humaines (IEHS) in Château-Chinon, where he had completed a distance learning course, had no state approval. The report did not deal with the fact that secularism in France does not provide for state recognition of religious training institutions. The program gave a lot of space to indications that the institute is close to the Muslim Brotherhood .

Observation of the constitution protection

The “Islamic Community Penzberg eV”, for which Idriz has worked as an imam since 1995 and of which he is a member of the board, was under observation by the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution from 2007 to 2010 . The Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann stated in July 2010 that the Penzberg congregation was “for good reasons in the report of the Bavarian Office for the Protection of the Constitution” because “leading members” maintained contacts “with more than problematic people” who held important positions in the Islamic congregation in Germany and Millî Görüş would have. According to Idriz, the Penzberg community was founded in 1993 with the support of the - Islamist - association Millî Görüş, of which he himself was a member until March 2006. But after a few years they separated from this club.

Against the accusations made against Imam Idriz and the IGP at the time, voices from the entire spectrum of democratic parties, from local politics to federal politics, spoke out in favor of his ZIE-M and MFI initiative . In fact, Idriz and the Islamic community were fully rehabilitated in 2011.

Construction project "Munich Forum for Islam"

The right-wing populist splinter party "Die Freiheit" , which has been classified as extremist Islamophobic in the Bavarian Constitutional Protection Report since 2013 , launched a referendum against the ZIE-M project in 2011 and, according to its own information, collected under the slogan "No European Islamic Center at Stachus !" Until 2014 in Munich 64,000 signatures. The Munich City Council introduced on 1 October 2014, the inadmissibility of the petition for a fixed (with 1 vote against the NPD ready or almost ready " citizens' initiative foreigners stop "), because the petition was based on untruthful allegations. In addition, formal errors were criticized. At the same meeting, the city council adopted a resolution “Solidarity with Muslims in our city!” With the same result. CSU City Councilor Marian Offman , who is also a board member of the Israelitische Kultusgemeinde Munich , described this resolution as a “milestone for the coexistence of religions and against racist agitation”. The lawsuit by “Die Freiheit” against the inadmissibility of the referendum was dismissed on November 12, 2015 by the Munich Administrative Court. The fact that the party was mentioned in the report for the protection of the constitution under the newly created category “Islamophobia relevant to the protection of the constitution” was confirmed by the Administrative Court on October 22, 2015.
