In the near future it will be possible to see a person's potential for violence, and to do so at first glance: the psyche of a person can be examined through technical progress . The result appears on the Psycho-Pass , a virtual and legally required ID that can be scanned anywhere and anytime. A dark color on the Psycho-Pass refers to the stressed emotional state of its owner. It is classified as potentially dangerous and can be arrested, treated or even eliminated.
In this world, Akane - a young policewoman fresh from the police academy - heads a police unit made up of prisoners with high criminal potential. Akane has to assert her leadership role in harsh society.

The series was produced by the Japanese animation studio Production IG . "Overall director" ( sōkantoku ) Katsuyuki Motohiro, assisted by director ( kantoku ) Naoyoshi Shiotani, is responsible for Psycho-Pass . The original character design was created by Akira Amano , which was then adapted for the animations by Kyōji Asano. The plot is based on the drafts of Gen Urobuchi, who wrote the scripts together with Makoto Fukami, except for episode 12, which was written by Aya Takaha. Director Motohiro engaged Gen Urobuchi after reading his series Puella Magi Madoka Magica and, impressed by its gloomy atmosphere, his previous works.
The 22 episodes were first broadcast by the channel Fuji TV in its NoitaminA program between October 12, 2012 and March 22, 2013 shortly after midnight (and thus on the previous television day ), as well as on the connected channels Tokai TV with an offset of up to a week , Saga TV , TV Nishi-Nippon , Sakurambo TV , Akita TV , Kagoshima TV , TV Kumamoto , Fukushima TV , TV Shin-Hiroshima , TV Ehime , Niigata Sōgō TV , Sendai Hōsō , Iwate Menkoi TV and TV Shizuoka . On July 6, 2013, the studio president of Production IG Mitushisa Ishikawa announced a second season at the Anime Expo . The second season, Psycho-Pass 2 , is animated by the Tatsunoko Pro studio and directed by Naoyoshi Shiotani ( kantoku ) and Kiyotaka Suzuki ( series director ). The overall storyline is from Tow Ubukata , which was scripted by Jun Kumagai. The 11 episodes were also premiered from October 10 to December 19, 2014 after midnight in the NoitaminA program block on Fuji TV, as well as Iwate Menkoi TV and Sakurambo TV, and with an offset also on TV Ehime, TV Shizuoka, Kansai TV, Akita TV , Fukushima TV, Niigata Sōgō TV, TV Shin-Hiroshima, TV Kumamoto, Sendai Hōsō, TV Nishi-Nippon, Tokai TV, Kagoshima TV and Saga TV.

The opening credits of the first season for the first eleven episodes is Abnormalize by Ling Tosite Sigure, the closing title Namae no Nai Kaibutsu ( 名 前 の な い 怪物 , "The monster without a name") by EGOIST. From the twelfth episode the song Out Of Control by Nothing's Carved In Stone is used in the opening credits and All Alone With You by EGOIST as the closing song .
For the second season, Enigmatic Feeling by Ling Tosite Sigure is used in the opening credits and Fallen by EGOIST.
Manga
The anime is being adapted by Hikaru Miyoshi as the manga series Kanshikan Tsunemori Akane ( 監視 官 常 守 朱 , Eng . "Inspector Akane Tsunemori"), which will run from November 2, 2012 (issue 12/2013) to May 2, 2013 (issue 6 / 2013) ran in Shūeisha's manga magazine Jump Square and as web manga on his website between June 4, 2013 and October 4, 2014 . The chapters were summarized in a total of six anthologies ( Tankōbon ).
The manga was published in German between October 2017 and July 2018 by Kazé Manga as Inspector Akane Tsunemori .
Novels
Gen Urobuchi wrote two volumes of novels on Psycho-Pass , which were published by Mag Garden on February 4 ( ISBN 978-4-8000-0102-3 ) and April 4, 2013 ( ISBN 978-4-8000-0141-2 ) .
Another novel called Psycho-Pass / Zero: Namae no Nai Kaibutsu (PSYCHO-PASS サ イ コ パ ス / ゼ ロ 名 前 の な い 怪物 ) by Aya Takaha was published on April 4, 2013 ( ISBN 978-4-8000-0142-9 ) by the same publisher . This deals with a subplot to the one shown in the anime.
Video games
In 2016, publisher NIS America released Psycho-Pass: Mandatory Happiness, an implementation of the anime for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4 in Europe. The game is a text adventure game which often gives the player freedom of choice when investigating crimes. Depending on how you decide within the game, the cases take a different outcome and the end of the game also varies greatly, depending on how you play.
