The 18th international tennis tournament in Zinnowitz took place from June 25th to July 2nd, 1972 in the Baltic Sea resort of Zinnowitz .

After ten years there was another GDR victory in the men's singles thanks to Thomas Emmrich . Horst Stahlberg won in 1962 . There was also a GDR victory in women's doubles by Bettina Borkert and Veronika Koch . The women's singles were won by the Hungarian Erzsébet Széll , who had eliminated the defending champion Brigitte Hoffmann in the semifinals . In the men's doubles, the Czechoslovaks Jan Bedáň and Jan Šimbera prevailed and the mixed won the last time this competition was held by the Romanian duo Mariana Simionescu and Toma Ovici .
