The 24th international tennis tournament in Zinnowitz took place from June 25th to July 2nd, 1978 in the Baltic resort of Zinnowitz . Some games were played in Ahlbeck because of thunderstorm rain .

The men's trophy was won by the GDR with Thomas Arnold and Thomas Emmrich . In the singles Emmrich was eliminated this time in the semifinals against the Russian Alexander Sawgorodni , who in turn lost the final against his compatriot Yevgeny Bobojedow . In the double final, Arnold and Emmrich lost to the Bulgarian twin brothers Boschidar Pampulow and Matej Pampulow . In the women's category, Czechoslovakia won the Cup of Nations with Iva Budařová and Lea Plchová . The two players also made the singles between themselves with the better end for Budařová and also won the doubles.
