The 25th international tennis tournament in Zinnowitz took place from June 24th to July 1st, 1979 in the Baltic resort of Zinnowitz . Some games were played in Ahlbeck .

The GDR defended the Nations Cup with Thomas Arnold and Thomas Emmrich , who also won the men's singles. The men's doubles went to the two Russians Evgeni Bobojedow and Alexander Savgorodni . In the women's category, the Soviet Union won the Cup of Nations, with Lyudmila Kravchenko and Lyudmila Makarova , who also won the women's singles. Both together won the women's doubles title. Christine Schulz stood in both finals, alongside Ines Schwarz in doubles .
