The 19th international tennis tournament in Zinnowitz took place from June 24th to July 1st, 1973 in the Baltic resort of Zinnowitz .

The mixed competition was no longer held this year. A Nations Cup was added to the tournament program, each for men and women. Two teams competed against each other, two singles and one doubles. This competition was held from Sunday to Thursday, while the singles and doubles competitions were held from Friday to Sunday. Thereby (also) in the men's competitions only two winning sets were played.

The first edition of the Nations Cup was won by the Soviet Union with Vladimir Korotkow and Anatoly Volkov , who then also won the men's doubles. The first GDR representation in the line-up of Brigitte Hoffmann and Veronika Koch was successful for women . Defending champion Thomas Emmrich won the men's singles , while Jelena Granaturova won the women's singles and Granaturova and Marina Tschuwyrina won the women's doubles . Thomas Emmrich and Botho Schneider reached the men's doubles final .
