The Interstate 238 (abbreviated I-238 ) is an interstate highway in the San Francisco Bay Area in California in the United States . It connects Interstate 580 in Castro Valley with Interstate 880 in San Leandro .
A special feature of the interstate is its number. According to the normal rules of numbering, it should actually be a bypass route of Interstate 38. However, there is no I-38 on the interstate highway system.

The three and a half kilometer long Interstate 238 intersects with I-580 and California State Route 238 . In the Ashland metropolitan area , I-238 is also crossed by California State Route 185 .
