Jonathan Clay "JJ" Redick (born June 24, 1984 in Cookeville , Tennessee ) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA . The Shooting Guard's strengths are primarily his throwing skills. Redick is considered a very good three-point thrower and an excellent free throw shooter .

Career

High school / college

Redick attended Cave Spring High School in Roanoke , where he was nominated for the "McDonalds All-American" game in 2002 and became the game's MVP . In his senior year of high school (2002), he and his team won the AAA State Championship . Redick scored his previous career best of 43 points in his last game.

Redick then began his studies at the famous Duke University , where he quickly became one of the best players; so he was z. B. elected ACC Tournament MVP in 2005 and 2006 . In 2006 he signed up for the NBA draft and left Duke with several ACC records, such as the highest number of points scored in the history of the ACC ( broken by Tyler Hansbrough in 2009 ) or the highest free-throw hit rate. In recognition of his achievements, his jersey with the number 4 was withdrawn on February 4, 2007 and is no longer awarded.

NBA

Redick was selected 11th in the first round by the Orlando Magic during the 2006 NBA Draft . In 2010, the then Restricted Free Agent received an offer from the Chicago Bulls , but the Orlando Magic used their preferential rights and held Redick on the terms offered, which means he stayed with the Magic. Redick played for Magic for over six years, where he was preferably used as a banker. With the Magic Redick played for the play-offs every year. In 2009 he reached the NBA Finals with the Magic, but there they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers around Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol .

On February 21, 2013, Redick was transferred to the Milwaukee Bucks . Redick reached the 2013 play-offs with the Bucks . There, however, the team failed in the first round due to the Miami Heat .

For the 2013/14 season , Redick moved after his contract expired within the league and signed with the Los Angeles Clippers . At the Clippers he mostly played as a shooting guard in the backcourt with Chris Paul . In the 2015/16 season, Redick was the player with the highest hit rate of three-point throws with 47.5%. With the Clippers he has reached the playoffs regularly since his arrival, but never made it past the second play-off round.

In July 2017, Redick joined the Philadelphia 76ers as a free agent . He signed a one-year contract there that brought him $ 23 million. In July 2018, he signed another one-year contract for $ 12 million.

Others

In 2011, JJ Redick founded the "JJ Redick Foundation", which works in Virginia and Florida through partnerships with local charities to improve the living conditions of disadvantaged youth. On July 23, 2011, a golf tournament started at Ballyhack Golf Club in Roanoke .
