The Jaguar R5 was the Formula 1 - racing cars from Jaguar for the 2004 season . The car followed the Jaguar R4 used in the previous season . It was the last car that Jaguar entered for a Formula 1 season.

driver

After a constant 2003 season , Mark Webber was still the first regular driver. As a teammate, he received the Austrian Christian Klien , who made his debut in the 2004 season. Justin Wilson , who replaced the original second driver Antonio Pizzonia , who had been sacked for poor performance the previous season , did not get a chance.

technology

The R5 was developed from the previous year's car, the R4. In the winter tests, the car was very promising, but it lacked reliability (12 failures).

The chassis was constructed as a monocoque , in which the 3-liter V10 Cosworth engine of the type CR-6 was installed as a unit. The maximum speed of the engine was 18,000 rpm. The car had a hydraulic seven-speed manual transmission developed by Jaguar.

The front suspension consisted of carbon (CFRP) wishbones and rods with coil springs and a stabilizer. The cross connections and rods for the rear suspension were also made of CFRP with coil springs and a stabilizer. Koni dampers were installed all around .

The braking system had six-piston brake calipers made of a lithium alloy and brake discs and brake pads made of carbon material.

Wheels measuring 12.7 × 13 inches were mounted on the front axle and 13.4 × 13 inches on the rear axle by the manufacturer OZ Racing .

2004 season

The 2004 season was disappointing with only 10 points and seventh place in the constructors' championship. Mark Webber could occasionally attract attention with good starting positions, but often not convert them into points.

After the season, the team was taken over by Red Bull and renamed Red Bull Racing .
